AGIOS NIKOLAOS

Agios Nikolaos is situated on the north-western shore of Mirabello, the most picturesque bay. The town owes its name to a small Byzantine church of St. Nicolas with 8-11th century frescos. It is the most beautiful coastal town which is called a Cretan Saint-Tropez.

You can meet here the cream of all Europe, visit the most fashionable stores and souvenir shops and sit in the best cafés. The jewellery stores on the embankment enjoy special popularity. The town administration organizes a Lato festival in summertime. European pop and theatre stars gather here during the whole tourist season, folklore bands give performances and exhibitions are held.

In the evening, a surprising metamorphosis takes hold of the calm and quiet town. Having accumulated strength during the day, everyone rushes to the wharf to animate the local area of bars divided by two bright squares. One of the squares gives birth to the local Soho, a row of bars and clubs on March 25 Street and another to cafeterias on the Joseph Koundouros Street, which is abound in music, dances and people staying awake all nights long. A romantic evening in an open small restaurant to the melodious sounds of calm music, uproarious dances all night long or national Greek music and sirtaki – all this is a night light-lit Agios Nikolaos.
